Welcome to YOUR Virtual Library!

Hello COMP110 Students!

I've created this research guide (we call them LibGuides) to help you understand and use the Library's research sources and materials. Use the blue tabs near the top to navigate to the other LibGuide pages.

  • On this front page you'll see various widgets that will enable you to search the Library's catalog for books, find MLA Formatting help, contact me directly via email for help, or chat with a librarian.
  • The Database Tutorials page contains four in-depth video tutorials just created by me this summer. The databases are: CREDO which is great for looking up terms, concepts, and people, EBSCOhost which serves up multiple databases you may search simultaneously, and Opposing Viewpoints in Context which will return to you information from a variety of providers such as magazines, journals, radio broadcasts, and even reliable websites. The fourth tutorial will show you some more advanced searching tips. I used EBSCOhost for the video, but most of these will translate to other databases.
  • The Library Lingo page is a glossary. I realized I was answering the same questions about library and research jargon, so I sat down and wrote out clear definitions for your convenience.

Please take the time to explore the databases with the help of these tutorials and you will find your research in this course and future courses much easier and efficient. These are the kinds of sources that you should be using at the college level and forward. Google and Wikipedia are great for looking up celebrity birthdays, but they are extremely risky for college-level assignments!

The Library has some special instructions for COVID-19, and you can find them here: https://bucks.libguides.com/COVID-19

Please feel free to email me any Library questions you may have, but do tell me that you are in Dr. Rackin's COMP110.

Good luck with the course!

Margaret
