Welcome to this thing called a LibGuide. I've tried to gather here links and tutorials that will help you when researching your COMP110 assignments. You are welcome to contact the library, use the chat box in the right column, or email me for help, but I am guessing you will find much of the information you need right here...
To the left, you will find general library stuff like the library catalog widget for finding books, and you'll see the library's famous CRAAPP tests for evaluating websites and deciding whether an article is scholarly (peer-reviewed) or not. I made a little video explaining the CRAAPP tests, and that is found just beneath the CRAAPP box. Enjoy learning how to select the right kinds of sources for your assignments! In the bottom box, you'll also find info on how to cite your sources to avoid accidental plagiarism.
On the right, you will see my contact information. If you want to ask me a question, I suggest you email rather than phone since I sometimes work at other locations. (Really, I don't mind.) Underneath my profile box, you will see a widget called "Get Help." With this tool you can get library help anytime the library is open from a Bucks librarian. If the library is closed, it will work like a text and we'll see it when we open up the next morning.
Please be aware that there are blue tabs near the top of the page. One is labeled Database Tutorials and another is Library Lingo Decoder. Database Tutorials are videos I made to help you learn how to use the library databases to find information. This might be more research than you need for COMP110, but it is there if you need it or if you are curious. The Library Lingo Decoder will help you understand library- and research-related terms that you might not be familiar with. I wrote the definitions myself based on discussions I've had with students.
Good luck with your course!
All the best,
Margaret
