COMP 110: Biletz: Home

Library resources and research tips to support students working on their persuasive research paper for Professor Joy Biletz's Fall 2023 COMP 110 course.

Research Topic Focus

In this research paper, you will be arguing for an American popular culture icon who has influenced the cultural landscape of Americans over several generations.

Conducting research

The library subscribes to collections of online newspapers, encyclopedias and journal articles.

Before you access the library collections, brainstorm! What makes someone an icon? What values does your icon represent? What have they done over time to appeal to people across generations? Also, an icon might not have specific actions to expand their appeal over time, but the values and characteristics of your icon continue to influence people. Think about why that might be happening.

As you think about those brainstorming questions, write down anything that comes to mind. There are no wrong answers! Once you have a list of phrases and terms, circle what is most important to you.
