Media Lab Guide: Downloading Videos

Access to resources, tutorials, and other information relevant to the services provided in the Media Lab

Important Note!

This does not constitute legal advice. Please be aware of copyright and download restrictions for videos. If you are using a video from the web to show privately in a classroom, this is likely to be an acceptable fair use. If you are re-uploading a video to YouTube as part of your media project, you may be in danger of a takedown notice. Using a short clip of a video puts you on better ground.

Note: The Digital Millennium Copyright Act assumes you are guilty until proven innocent, a process that would likely last longer than any class.

In general, be very careful and frugal in using videos from the web. Make sure that what you use is under a Creative Commons license (see the "Finding Media" tab above for more information). The tools below work, but there is no guarantee they are, or will be, free from malware of some kind. Read the privacy policy and other information before you use any of these. Be especially careful using iDesktop.tv as the site is designed to trick you into giving information and downloading programs.

For more information on copyright and fair use, see our guide: http://bucks.libguides.com/copyright

Firefox Add-ons

Firefox is a browser for viewing webpages (like Internet Explorer and Chrome). Firefox allows add-ons (also known as extensions) that are created by third-party developers (in other words, not Mozilla) to extend functionality beyond what is built-in to Firefox.

Note: These extensions are not reviewed for security. Be judicious in selecting and using these tools. We make no guartenee as to the safety or legality of these tools. If you are not comfortable using these tools, please come into the Media Lab and speak with us.

To download these add-ons go to "Tools" -> "Add-ons" once in Firefox and search for the name.
